In the 19th century slavery was a tremendous problem. Slavery first began in America when the first African slaves were brought to the North American colony of Jamestown and Virginia, In 1619. They used African American slaves to help build the economic foundations of the new and improved nations. In the book “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”They portrayed slaves as non-human beings. They auctioned slaves to white people in need of them , They feel like African Americans have a non-Human states, and they were nothing but property to white people. In the 19th century a lot of white people did slave auctions to recruit more slaves for their plantation. In “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” slave auctions were very common and popular for instance in the book it states “A couple of nigger traders come along, and the king sold them the niggers reasonable for three day drafts as they called it, and away they went, the sons up the river to Orleans. I thought them poor girls and them niggers would break their hearts for grief ; they cried around each other. I can't ever get it out of my memory, the sight of them poor miserable girls and niggers hanging around each other's necks and crying”.(Twain-282). Anybody hurt? ‘No’m, killed a nigger. ‘Well it’s lucky; because sometimes people do get hurt”.(Twain-341).Therefore they didn’t have any respect or courtesy for the African American race.
