Introduction We will be discussing what the slippery slop fallacy is. We also will be providing multiple examples of the slippery slop fallacy and errors made in this fallacy. Last, we will give two alternative routes to take in avoiding the slippery slope fallacy. Slippery Slop Fallacy This fallacy is used when a person assumes that some event in a “extreme” notion with inevitably follow from a previous event with out the supporting argument. This assumption does not account for multiple steps which leads to that “extreme” notion and no logical reasoning to do so (Nizkor, 2012) One small example of this would be if presidential candidate Trump wins a majority if the delegates, does not mean he will receive the Republican nomination. There are multiples steps that have to happen if he does not reach the majority of the delegates 1,237 of the 2,472. Then the Republican party will …show more content…
The slippery slope fallacy can be challenging to identify. The argument which relates to a chain of events, each event leads to an event that leads to an additional event. To avoid the slippery slope fallacy, best practice to ensure each event related to the argument is realistic and reasonable (Carolina, 2016). Other approaches would include using a strong premise to truly believe that both are true and relevant to the subject. This is done by enforcing strong support for your argument and conclusion and ensure to address proper and most relevant areas of the subject. Last, avoid to make any strong or sweeping claims without the supporting facts (Carolina, 2016) Introduction We have discussed what the slippery slop fallacy actually is. We have provided multiple real world examples of the slippery slope fallacy and common errors made in this fallacy. Last, we gave multiple approaches that would ensure avoidance of the slippery slope fallacy regarding the argument and
