Smallpox was and still is one of the most dangerous diseases in the world. Smallpox had killed approximately 300 million people in the 20th century. This disease was originally known in English as the “Red Plague“1. In 1980 the “World Health Organization” said that Smallpox had been completely destroyed. Even though, the disease had been eradicated, some smallpox vials still exist until now. So, many people have been debating through years about whether the vials of smallpox should be destroyed or not. This essay will be discussed furthermore about both sides of this argument by supporting some evidence.

First, according to an op-ed written in PLoS Pathogens, the main reasons why we should destroy the vitals of smallpox is to ensure our safety. Russia still have the vials of smallpox. As it's known now, Russia is not a trustworthy country because Russia sells weapons to Bashar Al-Assad ( Syria President ) who kills his own people by these weapons. Moreover, Russia has a partnership with North Korea who always threats the world by their nuclear weapons. So, by having Russia these vitals of smallpox is an upcoming danger to the whole world. In addition, the vials of smallpox can be used by the terrorist who are able to get these smallpox vitals to destroy the world or for Terrorism purposes. …show more content…

The vials of smallpox can be used for medical purposes such as vaccine and drug development. According to The world Health Organization (WHO) researchers have made a lot of progresses in developing vaccines. Furthermore, the vitals of smallpox can provide vaccine and medications for other diseases. The US and Russia have delayed the idea of destroying the vials of smallpox to continue their researches. Keeping these vitals is much safer than destroying them because it is possible that the smallpox might come back
