I completed my SMG 451 Sport Management Capstone, with the U.S. Army Family and Moral, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) at Fort Knox, KY. My overall Capstone experience was great, I feel that was exposed to realistic scenarios and received valuable mentorship from my supervisors and peers. I was exposed to all the positions within the recreation department either by shadowing the individual, receiving direct guidance, or hands on training. This allowed me to experience the MWR operations from all aspects, which included recreation lead, recreation supervisor, sports director, and community program coordinator. I felt comfortable knowing that I had the book knowledge for the internship and once I started the Capstone I was able to put everything in place. The most useful classroom knowledge during my Capstone was what I learned during my sport event and management course, just knowing about importance of safety and liabilities allowed me to stay focus and look for any potential hazards that possible arise during special events or working at the gym. Simple stuff like ensuring the janitorial staff placed the wet floor signs while moping the floors, inspecting the gym equipment prior to the hours of operation, and securing the facilities during non duty hours. Another classroom knowledge that I was able to use during the Capstone was the advertising, even though most the advertising was already complete for years, I was able to make so key suggestions for the future such as better usage of the signage and marketing. One thing I notice with their advertising it was too wordy and from my experience, people like to get the pertinent points of the event. Also, the marketing piece was limited to post wide emails and brochures, I felt better use of social media would be
