Smoking is something that most people know is bad but there are still people that smoke when they know this. It is said that nearly one in five deaths in the United States is related to smoking. Smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year in the United States or 1,300 deaths every day ("Fast Facts.”). If you are a smoker, you usually don’t live as long as nonsmokers because of all of the chemicals. Smokers can die an average of ten years earlier. The ad that I will be using is directed towards smokers because smoking isn’t just hurting themselves it is also hurting the people around them. This ad says that 53,000 people die because of secondhand smoke. This needs to stop because all of these people are dying not from doing harmful things to themselves but from just walking around and inhaling this smoke from others. I think this because it uses many persuasive appeals. The main one that is persuading people is the statistic that they used. The statistic is about people that don’t smoke so when smokers see that they are killing people that is what makes them stop. Another persuasive appeal is the grim reaper at the end of the smoke. It helps persuade that smoking will kill you and end your life sooner than it should be. The last thing is the ash tray which is persuading smokers to quit and put your cigarettes down. These are all symbols that are used to help persuade smokers. This advertisement doesn’t have a specific audience like some advertisements. This one focuses on all gender, race/ ethnicity, social classes, sexuality, age, education, and etc. The only one that it might not focus on is all ages. This is because in most cases smokers are teenagers or older so the advertisement is probably focused more on teenager and
