TW ESSAY Soccer has been around for decades. “"Soccer, or better known to the rest of the world as football, is one of the oldest sports in history" (Mcintosh). The evolution of soccer started back in 206 B.C. as a training ritual for Chinese soldiers, this was called Tsu’chu or “kicking the ball”. With all the sports people were playing back then, this was the first to not use hands, “Tsu’Chu was the first to not allow hands. Goals consisted of a net attached to two bamboo poles and elevated 30 feet in the air. This is quite the contrast to modern goals that sit on the ground and extend eight feet high and 24 feet wide. The particular style of playing a game with a ball, centered around one’s feet, spread throughout the world” (Mcintoch). Then, during the medieval period, in England, the game was played in towns that allowed rival teams to play against each other, they called this Folkball. Folkball was just like the game we know today but it did not include rules and players were getting hurt. In 1863, official rules for football were made to create an organized game in London, this was when the sport we are comfortable with was born. I was never one to enjoy sports. To me sports were never my strong-suit, I was the type of person to sit on the sidelines and watch, that was until a soccer ball was kicked at my head in fourth grade. In the end I learned that you can’t be scared of anything unless you face it. “Don’t be afraid to try something new, because in the end you might just like it” which was the quote Florence's dad said to me, was true.
