Soccer is the number 1 sport in the world. There are 11 players per team, and 3 major position zones that, when added together creates the possibility of 23+ different individual positions. The 3 major position zones are Defense, Midfield and Forward/Striker. Of all the positions involved, the midfielder requires the most preparation as he/she will be the one on the ball 70-80 percent of the time. Although it is the most difficult position to play there are key steps you can take to become a good midfielder.
First, you need to be overwhelmingly fit which requires strength and endurance training. You need to build as much upper body and lower body muscles as possible. So that means you will need do an above average amount of weight lifting and or exercise. This is due to the fact that the midfield is where most of the action takes place and it tends to get quite physical, at which time the extra upper body muscle mass will come in handy.
