Football is considered one of America's favorite sports. It was created in America and is watched by millions of fans in this country. But over the past decade another sport has picked a lot of momentum in the U.S; Soccer, also known around the world as football. Soccer is one of the biggest sports in the world but was never as popular in America. Relatively speaking, American football is a much newer sport than soccer. There is evidence that supports soccer, or a form of it, being played in the 2nd and 3rd centuries, while the earliest form of football was came around in the 1820's. A lot of fans of soccer believe that America, was just trying to establish something that was wholly American, instead of following the norms of other countries. Though it still has a lot of the same roots, such as kicking a ball around with the aim of getting it in the net. A lot of people say that soccer really began to grow in England, where it became so popular that people would spend all day in a field playing the sport. In the 1300's however, it was banned because of the rise in violent acts of the players and the overindulgence from soldiers, missing training to play. While there were no clear rules of play during this time; The first set of rules didn't emerge until the 1800's. These rules made the sport grow in popularity amongst universities. These rules were called "The Cambridge Rules." They brought more structure to the sport and they also cut down on the amount of violence that took place during the games. Another sport actually was derived from these same rules. Rugby was a form of soccer but the rules allowed for shin-kicking, tripping and the players actually being able to carry the ball.
