Egypt has a structure that puts people in a class based on what they do. This is called a social class pyramid. There are the high, middle, and low classes. Each with the respective people. Why did Egypt have these? They had the social classes because they needed to make sure that everybody knew where they were and have organization with what jobs people do. They also needed organization. First there was the highest class. The highest class contained the pharaoh and priests/nobles. These people were the only class that could own slaves. Pharaohs were the leaders of the people in Egypt. Pharaohs controlled the army. The priests made sure the gods were pleased. The educated professional had useful jobs. They were accountants, doctors, and scribes. Soldiers fought in war. When there were no wars to fight, they supervised the slaves. The workers made many useful things. Then they sold it to the merchants and shopkeepers so they could sell it to the public.Finally the lower class. Slaves, servants, and farmers made up this class. This class got little or no money for working. Farmers worked with the animals, crops, mines, irrigation canals, and buildings. They could have payed over 60 percent of their crops for taxes. Servants served the highest classes. The slaves were captured in war. The highest class were the only ones who could own slaves. The soldiers supervised the slaves. Those were the Egypt social classes, highest, middle, lowest. As time went on, Egypt made some changes. The social pyramid did not though. Lower classes like the skilled workers could save up money and go to school to learn. In doing this, they could become a scribe. The lower class just became a educated professional class.
