In Working Together: Crossing Color Lines at Work, Cynthia Estlund discusses that U.S. universities and Fortune-500 companies endorse diversity because it advocates for cross-racial understanding and eliminates racial prejudicial views. She stresses the importance of integration as being a societal goal, and even claims that there has already been “avenues of progress” in the modern-day workplace. Although humans typically isolate themselves from different ethnicities during their leisure time, workers must friendly interact and cooperate with others in a demographically diversified setting. The author claims American social criticism is created by declining levels of civic engagement, such as not interacting with our neighbors, as well as
The article Its Hard to Make it in America: How the United States Stopped Being the Land of Opportunity written by Lane Kenworthy is about how equal opportunity varies in America. Although America is known for being the land of opportunity, a lot of other factors play a role in how successful a person can be. A lot of these factors can be contributed to economic and and social shifts that have been happening in the United States. Some possible solutions include: getting money into hands of low-income families, improving family relations, improving schools, employment, affirmative action. I believe that this article is primarily written for the average American who may not be aware of the issues regarding equal opportunity.
Scientist have been studying society for centuries, sociology can be traced back to the ancient Greeks. Over the years, society have evolved and changed dramatically and continues to do so every day. There are many things that makes up sociology. Sociology is consisted of a few main terms, difference, privilege, inequality, and oppression. Difference is anything that sets an individual apart from the social norms of a culture.
To me, a social injustice is an act in which an individual or group of individuals are not treated fairly based on his or her gender, sexuality, citizenship status, and/or ethnicity. social injustices arise when individuals, who should be considered as equals, are treated unequally. This is caused by barriers, such as racism, oppression, discrimination, and sexism. Social injustices will not be fixed until the individuals who do not respect others start realizing that it is not our differences that should be held against us, but embraced and glorified. Everyone is different, not one person is the same as the next.
The most important of the vast privileges today’s generation of America has in my opinion are freedom and choice. Of course none of these would’ve been possible without blood, sweat, and tears from our soldiers. America has more than enough gifts to offer for everyone ranging from rich to poor and good to bad. Schools are great and have many advantages that other countries lack. Our veterans have given us everything we need and more so the vast majority of us can be successful.
After over two centuries of battling to understand its declared standards of general fairness, the United States still faces proceeding racial, gender orientation, and class difference. Inequality remains a source of extraordinary suffering and hostility over its causes and profound conflict over what can also, ought to be done to change it. In a general public that announces flexibility, independence, and unlimited portability, the determination of wild disparity along lines of race and gender is by all accounts an inconsistency. The period from Reconstruction through the Progressive Era, approximately 1870–1930, was one of extensive established in implications of citizenship, work, race, gender, and class relations owing to the withdrawal
Introduction Disparities in social welfare has long been an issue affecting minority and structurally disadvantaged groups in America. These populations can be described as socially and economically lagging behind the majority of their other social counterparts. This state often further restricts their opportunities for advancement. Although accomplishments in increasing the economic capabilities of minority groups have led to significant progress in the social and economic welfare for disadvantaged populations, crucial issues are still not adequately addressed and the progress made is far from the goals of many social welfare organizations seeking to uplift disadvantaged populations to acquire sustainable and prosperous living. Opportunities
Inequality is known to all. Everyone now in days will get judge for everything. Inequality is not just in America it is every where and we got to stop it. And if you do not know what inequality is I will tell you what it is.
The election time is the most crucial time every four years in which citizens decide who will represent them and their country. The candidates spend an abundance amount of money to impress the general public about their character and their future goals for the citizens. While every single person has a political stand on which candidate or party they support and which they do not, not all of these people end up making it to the voting ballot. In fact, in regards to the voter turnout, the United States of America experiences a drastically lower number of participation in comparison to other countries. Plenty of reasons interfere with this unfortunately low percentage number and the essential one being the government allowing its citizens to exercise
The African-Americans wanted to migrate North because the social conditions were difficult to live with in the South. The prejudice toward African-Americans in the South was too great to be ignored. The African-Americans wanted to be seen as equal and they knew that the wait for social equality in the South would take too long. Moving to the North not only gave the possibility of social equality, but there were also more job opportunities and the Northerners did not view African-Americans the way Southerners did. African-Americans were presented with “better educational opportunities and greater personal freedom [in the North]” (Crew 36).
The National Catholic Reporter(NCR) Editorial Staff published an editorial titled, “Poverty pokes through the political noise.” I agree strongly with their idea that poverty and economic inequality should play a huge role in upcoming political debates, and I believe that it is about time that politicians stop avoiding these issues. Economic inequality and poverty are so significant in today’s society and are so complex that there is no specific answer as to how to resolve them. These issues have only recently began playing an important role in politics as the people of the United States are becoming more aware about how prevalent poverty and income inequality have become.
Social privilege, when certain races or groups attain rights or advantages over other groups. There are small privileges for each individual group or race, and I happen to fall into the Asian American category. My parents were not born in America, so my family did not have much growing up, we did not have many privileges, but the ones we did have we cherished them. In the privilege walk, I learned that I was one of the students on the bottom of privileges. I do not know what group or race my classmates belong in, but they certainly had a lot more privileges than me.
Fewer than one in three black Americans and not even half of whites say the United States has made “ a lot of progress towards racial equality.” Today 50 years after the passage of the voting Rights Act, roughly six in ten Americans (59%) say the country needs to continue making changes to achieve racial equality. “ Most whites believe minorities already have equal opportunity.” Orfield said but “the peak of equity in college happened back in the 1970s, there are very large gaps today.”

Employers have been forced (by law) to speed up the hiring of a more diverse workforce and to remove the barriers to employment progress for previously disadvantaged groups. However, changing the numbers has not been enough. However the SAPS have to deal with the issue of figuring out how to effectively work together. This is their bigger challenge and education about differences has been introduced.
