The social justice tile pertains to the Sports/Athletics field of education. I selected to Sports/Athletics because to student-athletes, it tends to have a big influence on the student-athletes life. The positive effects that playing a sport as a student-athlete is that they get the opportunity to earn a scholarship, make great friends, and are less likely for the student-athlete to be negatively influenced. The negative effects would be time management skills, physical health, and mental health.

Throughout history, the U.S. has struggled with the idea of equality. Many things come into play when considering the equality of something including religious beliefs, gender, demographics, political views, etc. What makes deciding whether something is ethical or equal so challenging is that every person has different definitions of “equal.” The U.S. government has had to (or tried to) keep up with the ever-evolving society we live in by making amendments to the Constitution and making other necessary changes. Although the Civil Rights Movement mainly affected African Americans, but involved all of American society. Because most racism against ancient African Americans took place in southern United States, civil rights was extremely important to African Americans who lived in the south. Racism was so widely spread it even found its way into professional sports.
If you take a look at American life 50, 60, and even 70 years ago, its much different from the life that we know today. People of today do not have to constantly watch their backs, or remind their children that they are not allowed to play outside because of one simple factor; skin. Our progress is undoubtedly a positive slope, but as the saying says, there 's surely always room for improvement. The question we should ask ourselves is if we are doing enough to ensure that our past advocates, and philosophers, and supporters did not die in vain because then we would be unworthy of claiming the rights that they fought so hard for. The civil rights movement has always been a major political and civil unrest, but civil rights activists created unrest for their kids, and their grandchildren, to secure equal treatment for everybody.
Main Post There are a few topics of interest I would like to explore for my dissertation. My passion of interest is in the area of social justice. Currently I fluctuate between influencing policy concerning at risk youth from entering the criminal justice system and influencing policy that enables formerly convicted individuals reentering society whole again and enabeling them to become productive citizens with enriched lives. There are diversion programs setup to identify at risk youth and provide them with limited help to get them on the right track, but in too many cases some of these programs do not take into consideration the youths environment and what it means to incorporate a true change in their attitudes towards life. Henry Ford once said, “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress. Working together is success” (Brainy Quote). From here, the concept of inclusive education, including students with and without learning disabilities as peers in the same classroom, originated. The aim of this type of education is to get students with learning disabilities involved in the society. Teachers and fellow students will also provide help for students with disabilities; in this way, students with learning disabilities will be motivated to study as they feel that they are a part of a group instead of being isolated in special places.
It is important for teachers to create an environment that promotes fairness in order for students to succeed. Equality and equity are both needed to do this. Equality in a class means every student has the same opportunity to succeed. Making accommodations for students is called equity. This is needed in a class to ensure an equal opportunity to succeed is possible for every student.
