“Aye, there is a party this weekend on trinity lane and nine o’clock byol or byow”. This is how parties and other social events are started and the way they are seen by many people. Social media can be a place where you can make your self or your organization look perfect with no problems. In life no one is perfect and the people or business that think they are, are usually the ones who are bullies on social media or believe that they are above the rest and feel the need to talk bad or start things over social media. Turkle says” Its only on the screen where shy people open up”(pg187). Not only shy people open up but also all people open up more real and feel more comfortable due to the fact there not face to face talking. I have had multiple situations of someone saying something over text or social media about something that shouldn’t have been said or that was false. I had to go confirm and see if they really meant it. When I used to talk to this female in high school we were cool for a while then drama hit and we both took different directions from each other and never talked. The madness got between us and she began to revile false information and talk over social media like she was hot stuff and I was trash. I eventually confronted her about it, and her attitude and tone was different form that of the messages. Turkle explains exactly this through out her writing talking about how people act different or have a different state of mind when texting then that of face to face conversations. Mark Shaefer shows and example in his writing of a girl that just started dating through social media and it didn’t last long. When it ended it was through social media and not face to face. He says,“She said he preferred to argue this way because the delay in response while text messaging afforded him the opportunity to think of a snide remark”(Schaefer).
