Two articles, “Social Media and the Big Data Explosion” and “When Big Data Meets Social Media,” have given insight to how companies use big data in the realm of social media. The articles describe how consumers use social media as a pathway to secure a purchase. The YouTube video “Socialnomics 2017” introduced an interesting fact stating that “93% of buying decisions are influenced by social media.” That percentage is surely something that stands out. With that much online buying power, businesses have taken advantage of that very statistic, by pulling in as much data as they can about their customers. Social media in my life personally, has landed me few interviews in my lifetime. In fact, applying to jobs online is becoming the new normal. Although it is still common to witness a “Help Wanted” sign hanging outside a storefront, this is not the new normal. This past career fair hosted by the college I attend, most employers encouraged applying online and waiting to hear from them. The social media “LinkedIn” has really taken off in the past years. In fact, “Every second, two people join LinkedIn” (“Socialnomics 2017”). This is a professional site that gives employers a chance to look at possible employee profiles look over their credentials. In short, it is a website that allows you to become your resume. It also enables you to connect with others and build your social network. This is becoming the future of connecting with employers. Another door that social media has opened, are the vast amounts of career pathways it has enabled. According to the website Social Media Today, a few jobs that have been create through the use of social media are as follows: social media marketer, blogger/copywriter, app developer, web designer, security specialist, digital maker, etc. This does not even scratch the surface of the possible opportunities that social media has
