Have you ever wonder do social media have an effect on your personal identity? I bet that never cross your mind. Well, it has cross mines. Personal identity is a concept you develop about yourself that evolves over the course of your life. Social media is basically a social network, where people share information, ideas, blog and communicates through electronic messaging. I wanted to define personal identity and social media just to make sure you have a clear understanding as I explain the cause and effect of social media on your personal identity.

Social media are commonly known for people to blog and post what's on their mind or how they feel. Usually, these people are teens ages 13 to 19 years old. Common social media apps are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, Youtube, Vine, etc. Teens are commonly concerned with how many likes they get or views. If someone feels as though they don't receive enough likes or views it causes someone to look at themselves differently. That person starts to let social media be the reason as to why their self-esteem is lowered. Sometimes if you don't look how a person on social media wants you to look than they do tend to share your picture with a negative comment above it. This will affect someone on how they view themselves. When people receive negative remarks about they look and style they tend to try to change who they are and they taste and clothing to be someone they truly not.
