Shut off our screen week is a week in late April to early May during which you will stop using all forms of technology. Such as computers, phones, etc. Some people think that it is beneficial for people, while I don’t. Shut Off Your Screen Week could have a lot of negative effects on children by not letting them use social media. Social media can allow kids and young adults to have stronger bonds as well as allowing them to feel more confident and have less stress. The first reason that Shut Off Your Screen week shouldn’t happen is social media can help kids, teens and young adults have stronger bonds. My first piece of evidence to back this theory up is there was a girl named Anna and she had been dumped by her now ex boyfriend. It was way too late to go and call her therapist and her friends so she went to Facebook to look for support. She talked with friends that she met playing games online until she felt better and could sleep. A study showed that whenever a college student viewed their profile they felt more confident and had higher self esteem. This shows that when you have good pictures of yourself on social media it can make you feel better when you look at them. Another piece of evidence is, kids, teens and young adults felt less stress after posting on social media. This shows that kids like their page and posting makes them happier than they were before they posted. Social media can be good for everyone, so we should not have Shut Off Your Screen
