Social Media and Its Negative Influences on Children Introduction At the beginning of twenty first century the phenomenon named social media entered massively our lives and still continuing to do to all of our everyday activities. Many fields-advertising, management, service industries had adapted to and benefitted from its existence. Definitely, communication is one of the spheres which it influenced substantially. However, usage of social networking is not for only adults. There is significant children presence in social network. (2012) demonstrates that content which includes sexual health promotion are more likely to be presented in social network, which are not pleasant materials for children to face. When children spend too much time online, at some point, they may think of social media as a replacement for the real world. Consequently such substitution may lead ignorance about behavior related interpersonal contact. Moreover, it may result in witnessing hate speech and increasing social distrust. Obviously, hate speech is a part of virtual world because of poor censored content and existence of huge number of unknown or fake accounts. When, children face hate speech in social media, they may adsorb such behavior and start to trust people less considering the case in virtual world to be identical to the real-life situations. For a number of children, being online for long duration may cause addiction. As Wu (2013) points out having game application inside social media site can increase the chance of game addiction alongside addiction to social network itself.
