For the Capstone Project, each group or individual is required to choose a topic and find information on it. The topic that I have chosen to focus on with my partner is the negative effects of social media. My hopes are to be able to improve my skills of understanding how social media can be a factor of negativity in one's life. Fortunately we have been able to find quite a bit of information on this topic. Through the information, we’ve concluded that social media effects include negative impacts on relationships, self confidence , and although most may not think so, one's ability to socialize.
Campus High School has been the focus point for many bullies. No matter what school kids go to they will always find bullying and a student who is affected by it. “In Brockton, middle and high school students are taught to text a tip to report nasty behavior (Seltz)”. Many of the students who are bullied turn out to be gay or lesbian or bisexual and get bullied more than kids who are not. “Understanding the various forms of bullying as well as the language used in bullying is important given that bullying can have persistent consequences, particularly for victims who are bullied through biased-based bullying, such as being called gay, lesbian, or queer (evans)”.

The apparent isolation of LGBT individuals has been helped in part by the growing number of community spaces available, as well as the internet allowing for more private and closer friendships to develop (Li Kings p.626). Unfortunately, the internet can be a double-edged sword for the LGBT community. Social media gives people the power to show anything to the world. Much of the time this power is not for the good and can ruin them and their life. Kids and Adults alike are all so addicted to their phones that they can lose their jobs or potentially never graduate from high school. All of this can just happen from using your phone all day. Though some may argue using social media is good for connecting with other family members moreover to spread a positive message to other, but as good as social media is, social media can negatively impact a person’s life due to what they do online.
Based on the information in my research, there has been given results to tests and surveys to validate the author’s position on this topic. The evidence cited by the author is current for the years 2009-2011, it is apparent that not much has seemed to change over the years and many teens are still to this day experiencing bullying due to their sexual orientation. Stopping bullying requires that the adults in charge stay aware, set a good example, intervene to stop unsafe behavior, and teach personal safety skills to the young people in their lives. Practicing what to say and do prepares young people to take charge of their emotional and physical safety, to increase their confidence, and to develop positive peer relationships.
