Parents of adolescents should be concerned with their children using social media because it can cause anxiety, isolation, and may also reveal any personal information about themselves.

Using social media is shown lead to social isolation, antisocial behaviors, and it discourages contact and connections with others. Children that use social media would grow up to adulthood with anxiety, aggression, antisocial behaviors, and depression (Wright). Sherry Turkle, from M.I.T. says, “We live in a technological universe in which we are always communicating, and yet we have sacrificed conversation for mere connection” (Wright). She says that people would rather be on a connection, which means social medias, than to have conversations, which would most likely be in real life. Turkle also reaffirms that humans instinctively need each other (Wright). According to the AAP report, 75 percent of teens have cell phones and 25 percent of them uses their phone for social media, 54 percent for texting, and 24 percent for instant messaging (Wright). This information proves to us that cell phones are a big part in our lives. However, some experts say that it’s not necessarily a good thing (Wright). It is not a good thing at all because overuse of electronics devices can cause problems such as anxiety, aggression, antisocial behaviors and depression (Wright). Dr. Bill Cleary uses Facebook only up to 10 minutes a day but only because to keep in touch with her granddaughter (Wright). He says the teens who “hypernetwork,” which is to spend three or more hours a day on their phone, or “hypertext,” which is to send 120+ messages a day, these kids will develop issues later in the future (Wright).
