We are accepting of others and do not look at people different because of certain physical appearance, character, or sexual preference. We are all equal. This is a lie that many people live in today. Gay marriage is not accepted in all fifty states. This says that we clearly have more evolving to do. People live lives that are not theirs because they do not want people to know that they are gay. People these days live double lives just so that they can hide something about themselves, and they do it because they are afraid. Homosexual teenagers fear being judged or hated for something that they have no control over. Being a teen in America today is not easy. Fights with family and friends, and more serious issues such as drug use, pregnancy and eating disorders are some pressures that teens face. Now, add being gay to that list. Homosexual teenagers face a whole new set of challenges. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, studies have found increased risk for suicide attempts among gay youths, especially males (Mozzi). Students that are seen as different can often be targets of bullying. A common threat of bullying that homosexual teenagers face is name-calling. Because of such bullying, some closeted teens fear disclosing their sexualities (Goldring). A newly released mental health study says parents must accept the lifestyle and gender expression of their lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender adolescents to prevent against suicide, drug abuse, and depression (Samuel). A parent should love their child no matter
