Priestley explores responsibility in the morality play, An Inspector Calls to educate the 1945 audience on the dire consequences of a lack of social responsibility. Through the use of the play Priestley aims for the audience to reflect on themselves, ideally leading to a positive change in society. He was a devoted socialist with passionate beliefs to change the ideals of capitalists and encourage people to vote for labour.
