gender, class, sexual preferences (NASW, 2010). As a mental health counselor, I have a Hispanic individual who I counsel to help alleviate anger and find positive coping skills to reduce outburst. When providing individual counseling I often involve her father in our sessions, due to family being an important fixture in the Hispanic community. Although my client speaks English her father’s primary language is Spanish therefore I provide a translator through Wellcare to allow him to be apart of her treatment. I understand the importance of cultural sensitivity and how it can promote noteworthy progress in one’s mental health.

Solution focused social work is a combination of strengths perspective and narrative ideas (Payne,2014). This concept involves an individual exploring their environment and being active participants in setting their goals, objectives, and interventions. Ideally, social workers can incorporate strengths perspective while engaging with clients that are Hispanic/Latino when trying to tackle acculturation. By considering every individual, family, and groups have their own strengths one can use their culture as a way of promoting self-awareness. Sadly, many Hispanics/ Latino individuals face acculturation due to the demanding views of society to conform to western values. It is significant that social workers understand cultural aspects like the significance of language. Payne, 2014 suggest that people’s use of language in communication contains symbols of their culture, as well as how poor communication across cultural boundaries may make social work practice difficult. Social workers who have Hispanic clients should allow their primary language as a form of communication to show they have their best interest and provide a sense of comfortability for the client.
