Introduction Going into any profession, you come across a set of guidelines that that profession follows. Whether you want to call them rules, or guidelines, they are a code that we choose to follow. We choose to follow because theses codes give us the purpose of the profession. In social work our Code of Ethics, spells out our mission when it comes to helping people. Core Value- Dignity and Worth of the Person The Social Work Code of Ethics is our set of guidelines that let us know what our profession is about. It provides us with a set of achievable goals to reach for. Most importantly it sets us up with guidelines to better serve the individual and the community. When working with a person and/or a community I feel that dignity and the worth of a person is very important. I also value dignity and self-worth as a top priority. Presenting yourself with dignity gives you a chance to set the precedent on how you want to conduct yourself. And being able to respect a person and not judge them by their situation allows you to see the person for what they are worth not what the situation created. This core value is important to me because it shows that a person can be shaped by the people around them. Although a person does not need the validation and approval of others to be who they are and do what they like to do, it is easier on a person life if they are shown dignity and self-worth from the beginning rather than having to fight to earn it. This is important to me because I do believe that people should be given dignity. Dignity should be a core value given to anyone and everyone, no matter who they are or where they come
