I’m currently a student at San Joaquin Valley College, working towards becoming a certified medical assistant in which I have proficiency in typing skills and accomplished CPR and HIPAA certification. My passion is the medical field where I can assist the needs and services of others while being able to connect and create a comfortable environment for patients. On an interpersonal level, I excel as a conversationalist to personalize each interaction I encounter. Rutgers University School of Social Work is an intense and competitive program that is well-known for shaping some of the finest and highest skilled social workers today. As an aspiring social worker, I want to attend a MSW program that will challenge and prepare me for a successful career and I know that Rutgers University School of Social Work is the institution that will do just that. As an undergraduate law and justice major, I have always dreamed of pursuing a career in the field of law as a defense attorney. However, when asked why, I was never able to provide an answer.
Doctor of Social Work Program Application Personal Statement Ashley Newberry LCSW, LISW As I child, I was introduced to the human service field in a unique way. For as long as I can remember, my mother has had a human service profession and provided me with daily examples of how to help others. One of my earliest memories is riding out a hurricane while we stayed in the adult group home where my mother worked, assisting with safety measures for residents and providing comfort to her community. My mother worked in multiple residential programs throughout my life, specializing her work with individuals with developmental and physical disabilities.
Though I am mostly looking to give back to the UNO community through my employment, I do hope to gain a few skills and experiences from it. I hope to gain more communication skills by connecting with the various individuals that are comprised to make the UNO community. It is extremely important to me to make strong connections with other UNO members because I want to further my involvement on campus. With strong communication, I can utilize the ideas and opinions that others have about projects or goals that I am working on. I can also get involved and collaborate with others to ensure that the projects that are being worked on can be successful and benefit the students of UNO.
I want to be a physician because I want people to grow old. At the age of 6, one of my closest friends was diagnosed with leukemia. By age 8, the disease claimed his life, robbing him of the opportunity to experience the privilege of growing old. Unfortunately, we live in a society of vanity. We see the process of aging and choose not to embrace it.
I have a strong passion for art and creativity, which is why I have set my sights on pursuing a career in graphic design. The field of graphic design has always captivated me, and I believe it is the perfect avenue for me to express my artistic talents. In order to achieve my goal, obtaining a bachelor's degree is crucial. That is why I am particularly drawn to the Savannah College of Art and Design for my higher education. SCAD stands out among other creative universities because of its extensive range of degree programs and specializations.
As a child, I dreamed of becoming an attorney in the family law field. The irony of the matter at hand was that my parents had been through a divorce, and I, being the stubborn and open minded child I was, decided I wanted to justify loyal and caring parents. This idea grew in my mind, later blossoming into the career of a guardian ad litem, which is a representative of the child in a divorcing family. Recently, social work has dawned on me as a career opportunity and major. After thorough research of the majors and career choices, I have changed my mindset of law to social work.
I’m applying to GHP because I want to share my appreciation of literature and meet others with the same interest. I expect to gain a better understanding of the communicative arts. My expectation to consult others with the same goal as I have and have our voices heard through projects that emphasize our messages. To attend GHP for communicative arts would be my goal because I’ve recognized how English molds every aspect of my life. Connecting with other people through literature and inspiring them to write is my passion.
Ross offers me a chance to fulfill my passions, while benefitting from a well-rounded education through LSA. Successful business people are not necessarily specialists, but those who have a diverse portfolio of skills. By combining the study of management, entrepreneurship and communications studies, Ross would provide a well-rounded education, allowing me to evolve as a successful business person who gives back to his community. To excel in the competitive business atmosphere, one must combine knowledge with management and leadership skills. As MERGE sets the foundations for positive leadership, critical thinking and communication skills, I am excited to study with Ross’ Management and Organization faculty.
Why did you choose that agency and the relevance for your future clients? Being an active duty military spouse, the military lifestyle has become a large part of my identity and I belong within the military community. Working for the Airman and Family Readiness Center as a Social Worker is very much a “calling” for me. When I was a new spouse without a support system, the stresses related to the military were much more than I ever imagined. Now that I am a seasoned spouse who will soon earn her MSW, I really want to be there for the new military members at the best of my abilities.
Indeed, supporting displaced individuals is a task for us all in this world of uncertainty. In helping other people are connected in varied ways. Persons share cultures and customs through such contacts. Meanwhile, I want to be involved in administering services and activities for refugee for my compassion I have in working with this marginalized group. The experience I have with refugees from the Great Lake region residing in Dzaleka refugee camp can be of significant help in dealing with issues impacting refuges from Mozambique.
The quality MSW program offered at Our Lady of the Lake will enable me to conduct research into, and increase my understanding of the diversity this program entails. I know that my adaptive personality will help me to form lasting connections to further build my professional goals. I believe that I my passion, drive, having an open mind and willingness to learn will grant me success as a Social Worker. I am determined to do all that I can to pursue a Master’s degree in Social Work and commit myself to improving the social and personal experiences of family’s, geriatrics, and children.
