As a child, I would spend my weekends venturing into the art of potion-making. I would dress in an old apron and imagine myself as a scientist concocting “medicines” of lotions, soaps, and nail polishes for “pharmaceuticals.” I reflect back on this and realize that even in adolescence, I had a passion for science, but never would I have imagined that my future would hold college labs for the UCR Summer Research Program, which helped me officially decide that I wanted to enter medicine. During the summer of my junior year, young chemists and myself worked in the labs of four chemistry professors at UCR to aid graduate students with their research. Youth Council Voice Connection isn’t centralized on science, but its events require passionate, young leaders that sculpt their community members into youth advocates. The council focuses on developing youth leadership skills through several conferences, while advocating for a substance-free lifestyle. Here, my passion for providing aid to others has flourished, and something in my mind clicked, and I was able to realize I can combine my passionate attitude about advocating for a healthy lifestyle and strengthening others’ leadership skills with my infatuation with science into a career in the medical field. I thrive off of helping others become better people for their communities. I simply love it. I possess an endless amount of faith into others and myself, which is where my liberal qualities tend to overtake my rationale. I long to assist others and make them better products of their society, as I make myself a better product of my society while doing something I’ve been intrigued by since a child, science. My fervent desire to fortify my surroundings has blossomed through Youth Council Voice Connection. I love the sciences as a whole, so a combination of liberal arts and medicine dabbles into all aspects of a subject that keeps me up at night—intriguing me, assisting me in viewing multiple perspectives, educating me. This is why I believe I would be a great fit for the PLME
