I began college in 2014 at the age of 58 years-old to change my area of employment and do something that is far more interesting to me, working within the social services field. I realize the fact I was brought up by two dysfunctional, abusive parents in a chaotic home lead me to search out that same type of familiar relationship when I left home at the age of seventeen. In short, I married a domestic violence abuser and alcoholic when I was 19 years-old and had 5 children. Ten years into the marriage, when I had finally reached the end of my rope, a local police officer helped me to obtain a Protection from Abuse order and removed my husband from the home. Working for a call center for many years, before come back to school, I know that I have acquired many of the skill you are looking for to preform essential job functions. At the banking call center I was expected to answer calls, log conversations, route calls, and other operational task. As a liaison for my department, I would also communicate and train other departments, work on special projects, collect and sort data.
As I enter the major of Social Work with intent to become a school counselor, I plan to educate myself in a numerous amount of ways to be able to help the future generations. Children are the future. Each person is born into a different background, this upbringing has a grand impact in their childhood and what kind of person they become. My mother worked in multiple residential programs throughout my life, specializing her work with individuals with developmental and physical disabilities.

I graduated and pursued my education at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro before transferring to Barton College, where I earned a bachelor's degree in social work. I realize that senior citizens sometimes struggle with unique age-related health issues and debilitating diseases that make it hard to pursue fully functioning lives. As a social worker I’d help elderly individuals and their families examine their needs, and determine how to make those things happen. The elderly sometimes also endure loss of family support, lack of mobility, depression, abuse and loneliness. I hope to address the daily battles facing our elderly by helping them maintain their independence and dignity.
