What is the significance of the encounter and relationship? I encountered the Job Placement Center (JPC) when I first became a student at Antelope Valley College back in 2015. I wanted to start carrying some money and I talked to my friend about how difficult it was being for me to find a job. He himself was once a student worker at AVC and he said told me to visit this office, because he knew they’d help me out here and so it was. When I came back a year later I was provided a student worker position with them in the same office. I had an idea of what the office did, which was providing students jobs on campus, but there was so much more. How can this learning promote other possibilities for social justice work? The time I have summed up with JPC I have learned quite a few things that are in regards to obtaining a job and can possibly promote other possibilities for social work justice. Few of the things that can promote possibilities for social work justice I have been taught here are like certain things an employer can’t ask a potential employee, places that hire felons, and I have become aware of many of the resources that we have to offer here in the AV. Work is a central part of many people’s lives and sometimes we come to feel oppressed in this workforce system and ties may become severed through that. In JPC we have all different kinds of age groups stepping in into our office for some assistance or to gain some knowledge on how to deal with some issue pertaining the workforce they are in. A couple of weeks ago we received a case of a woman probably around the age of twenty five, that was having some issues with their employer, because of her school schedule. My supervisor assisted this person and sat to listen to her. The lady kept going on about her issues at work and she finally said something about her employer calling her out because of her age and lack of experience. When my supervisor heard this she told the lady that she had the right to sue that man for calling her out on her age. There is no federal protection in place to protect workers younger than 40 from age discrimination, but to determine …show more content…

Resources I have become aware of many programs that have different areas and days where they give out food in the AV, areas you can get free clothing, where you can have a free meal, a place where they can pay one of your gas and electricity bills, where the homeless shelter was, but sadly has been closed down now, free dental exams, vaccines, and quite a bit more. Here at JPC if you want to become aware of what’s going on within the AV you can easily be informed once you start searching. Being aware of resources as such definitely promotes social justice work, because many of us may one day come to be aided with these kinds of
