The society plays a very significant role in the moment in which teenagers start consuming drugs and alcohol. In this regard, teenagers normally start consuming drugs motivated by their social environment. There is a very spread misperception of the world according to which the consumption of drugs is “cool”, and that teenagers ought to consume drugs to be considered socially attractive (DiClemente, 2018). If perpetrated in time, this misperception of the world may have critical consequences as the plasticity of the brain will adapt such that it will require higher quantities of the drug to reach the ecstasy’s stage, such that the teenager will tend to increase his consumption of drugs.
Another significant societal influence that can have an impact on drug abuse by opposing it is the isolation and margination of the drug addicts by the rest of the population. In this regard, and even while a part of the society perceives drug to be attractive and acceptable, this assumption is only valid as long as the person is still able of controlling his own actions. Thus, most of those that supported the “rational” consumption of drugs refrain when it comes to drug abuse, and will not hesitate to blame the drug addict for being unable of controlling himself (Maisto, …show more content…

Thus, only by addressing the previously misperception according to which drug use may be socially acceptable, we will set the correct foundation in order to avoid the spread of the drug abuse problem. In this regard, and as noted by Kandel & Kandle (2014), the controlled use of drugs is impossible, as the brain of the person consuming drugs will, through its plasticity, modify itself such that it will keep demanding more and more drugs unless this problem is conveniently
