This topic can fit many different sociological theories, but the theory of stratification fits this topic very well. Stratification is the ranking of people and their rewards they receive based on wealth, power or prestige. Money fits this theory because the status of how much money a person makes places them into hierarchy’s. There are three main classes that represent the economic standings of people are the high, middle and low classes. Due to the ideology that money runs the world, wealth can influence the other two aspects of stratification. With money, one can buy power, and can buy a sense of prestige. It is not impossible for a person to have only one of the three traits though, you can have wealth without having power or prestige, ect. One reality TV show that money plays a big role in is “Keeping Up With the Kardashians”. This family is famous for no other reason than being wealthy and creating a name for themselves. They flaunt their money by buying multiple cars, living in huge mansions and also by buying clothes and shoes whenever they want to. They have such idolized lives because they can afford to do whatever they want. Another famous person that has a lot of money is Oprah Winfrey, but instead of using her fortune to buy unnecessary things she uses her money to help others. Oprah supports many low income schools, and communities and many other organizations too. She makes a very big impact on people’s lives, she could buy anything in the world that she could want but she would rather help others that need it.
