Socrates strongly believes that “an unexamined life is no life for a human being to live.” From reading “Apology,” Socrates has shown his people to question not only others about their knowledge, but to question one’s knowledge too. When speaking about knowledge, it’s not necessarily speaking about one’s stance in their vocabulary or how much you know when it comes to mathematics, rather it’s speaking about life subjects, how much you know about yourself relating to life in general. And that is when examining one’s life is very valuable. It not only helps you reflect back on your achievements, but it also helps you reflect back on your flaws. But, because I had the opportunity to reflect and examine my life, I was able to learn that that was one of my weaknesses, and in order to improve, I first have to learn and look at my flaws. Which brings me to the next question, of what barriers could prevent me from living a fully examined life. I know it can be hard for some to look back at your flaws, and think “Wow, did I really let myself go that much, that I failed that miserably?” When I state some, it includes myself as well. It sometimes is very hard to look back at your rough moments, but there’s always a lesson learned after that difficult moment. Another barrier could be the belief that Socrates was defending throughout the reading saying that, one is wiser than others when he does not think he knows something that he does not know of. By this statement, Socrates was trying to say those who think they know ‘everything’, like the politicians and the poets, are not truly wise enough to see that they can improve and add to their knowledge, like any other person. That they truly do not know anything, and they are wasting their time stating they do, when they do not. I think it is possible to live this sort of life in today’s world, especially because of social media. As many have discovered, everyone’s profiles and all the pictures they submit are a reflection
