Socrates believes that there are three parts of the soul. He first gives the example of different people from different cities to represent each of the three parts of the soul. Spiritedness comes from people of the north, such as Thracians and Scythians; love of learning comes from his part of the world (Greece); and love of money comes from the Egyptians and the Phoenicians. He then goes onto to question if humans learn with one part, get angry with the second part, and desire pleasure with the third part. He also questions whether we act with the whole soul or with different parts when it comes to different situations.
