The Fall Out Boy boy band recently became very popular throughout America in 2014 when their song Centuries, started to hit the number 1 music charts. The boys also began collaborating with singers like Wiz Khalifa and bands like Paramore or Panic!
According to Perry, “Violence, sexism, and criminal activity are all depicted as horrifying features of rap music” (27). However, people may say rap music is a bad influence. “That image often does not correlate the actual lyrics or the personality of the artist; it reflects the music’s perception as violent ghetto expression”, acknowledges Perry. Regardless of the language hip hop artist use they paint a picture of real life situations of black americans. The realism of these stories causes destructiveness in these areas which fuels the words of an artist.
Hip-Hop When one hears the word, “hip-hop”, images of money, drugs, violence, and provocative dancing instantly arise. Once someone hears the loud hip-hop music blasting out of a teenager’s room, they immediately criticize them for listening to what they call “nonsense”. Despite some people’s inherent distaste of hip-hop, this genre of music is actually sending an incredibly enriching and influential message. In “Hip-Hop and Shakespeare”, a TED talk, Akala, the speaker, argues that hip-hop motivates people to be intelligent and successful.
Marcus Jamal Hopson, also known as Hopsin, is a lyricist and a rapper who believes that not knowing is okay but not trying to learn is not and that being strange is okay. First, he states, “At the end of the day it doesn’t matter what anybody else thinks as long as you’re happy.” This shows how he doesn’t care about people thinking he is strange or weird as long as happiness is the main goal. “You wanna succeed. You have to try or one day you’ll get older and regret it all because you can’t provide.”
As a good song, it is important to take a broad view of songs. The songs consist of the lyrics and the tune, but also of all the contexts in which a song is created, experienced, produced, and consumed. After listening the song All I Got 's Gone, the singer used the form of a song to interpret the social situation in the United States at that time, and preserved it for us to appreciate. The song was surrounding the life of citizens during the great depression, which was written in united state in 1934. According to the name of the song, the name is clearly enough to show his mood after all of things the writer got has gone.
“American Pie” can be heard as a historical story of American during the fanciful 1950s and the drearier 1960s. The song is inspired by Don McLean’s memory of being a young paperboy in 1959 and when he learned that Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson had died in a plane crash. “American Pie” gives its audience a conjectural story of McLean’s life from the mid-1950s to the end of 1960s. At the same time, it symbolizes the progress of popular politics and music over this time frame.
With the influence hip-hop artist have over a younger generation that lacks male role models, this example has become problematic. The glorification of gangs and violence is a problem that is loudly proclaimed by the hip-hop genre. It is easy to be quick to judge these rappers and the lives they live, but maybe learning who these people are and where they come from would help in understanding why they have tendencies to use drugs and engage in violent
Hip Hop is seen as something inspiring, but most people see it as a way to speak out the truth about a problem. As in “Hip Hop planet” being able say the truth can sometimes worsen any situation because sometimes what we say can promote violence and whatever happens after is not in our control. The essay is about how hip hop has changed into speaking out the issues that need to be taken care of in order to maintain a proper society. McBride talked about how rappers use violent lyrics to degrade women and gays and because of this it shows how the music has evolved into something entirely different that no one would have ever expected to have changed. In James McBride's essay “Hip Hop Planet,” he argues that hip hop has a negative influence on American Culture despite people thinking of it as inspirational and how people live through different experiences in life despite of your race.
The songs Three weeks by Marco Antonio Solis and I talk to her everyday by Los Tigres del Norte are both songs that try to give out the message about how their moms suffer when their sons grow up and forget about them for many different factors. For example: college, getting married, work, taking friends in priority, get addicted to drugs, etc; and when we finally start to worry, change, and try to talk to their mothers again it is too late because their mothers die of loneliness and absence of them their children. The song Three weeks is about a mother who raises her son to be a very strong independent man and when he grows up to leave to college he forgets about how much his mother had done for him. He would never call or visit his mom.
Fall Out Boy released their hit album, “American Beauty/American Psycho” in January of 2015. “American Beauty/American Psycho” consisted of eleven songs such as, “Fourth of July,” “Centuries,” and “Uma Thurman.” This album’s music was a mix of hard rock and pop. If the album tops the Billboard albums chart, it will mark Wale's second Number 1 album. Two years, the rapper's The Gifted entered the top of the charts, after selling over 150,000 copies in its debut week. The Album About Nothing features guest appearances from J. Cole, Usher, SZA, Stokley Williams, and Jeremih.
Hip Hop was the wildfire that started in the South Bronx and whose flames leapt up around the world crying out for change. James McBride’s Hip Hop Planet focuses on his personal interactions with the development of Hip Hop culture and his changing interpretations of the world wide movement. Many of his encounters and mentions in the text concern young black males and his writing follows an evolution in the representation of this specific social group. He initially portrays them as arrogant, poor, and uneducated but eventually develops their image to include the positive effects of their culture in an attempt to negate their historical misrepresentation.
Hip-hop is an influential form of music that displays an artist’s honest and revealing story that many of the general public can relate to. One of the many songs that I can relate to is “Love Yourz” written by J Cole. The song talks about how Cole reflects on the most important things in life such as love and happiness. He realizes that the money and fame didn’t bring him the happiness he desired. To gain true happiness, he needed to appreciate himself and those that love him.

The number of drug references in songs have increased almost 600 percent over recent years. A study showed that 69 percent of rap songs mentioned the use of drugs. It has become a trend in today’s music scene as almost every song makes some type of reference. As an effect of this teens are more likely to take part in drug activity because it has widely spread among the youth. When asked about their opinion on the situation a lot of artist replied that “it is a type of fashion or way of life”.
