Music can make a scene more compelling because it adds emotion to a scene. For example, in the beginning of the documentary when the narrator was talking about Kristallnacht, there was a frantic orchestra accompanying his more and added sound effects of glass breaking. It makes a person feel more anxious and frightened of what is to come and sets the tone for the documentary, since the event of Kristallnacht is one of the best pieces of evidence as to why Jewish people need to be able to escape the terrors of Hitler’s control as soon as possible. Another example is when there would be a transition of a scene to the Klein family, and the music had a melancholy tune to it and it added more to the scene to draw out more emotion from the viewers.
Page 2 of 2 MusicThe movie “Selena” was a musical in which many upbeat songs were played and sang by Selena. I will be explaining all about the music and deciphering and breaking down each song choice that was played during this movie. Selena at a young age was quite interested in the popular 80’s singer Donna Summer. She influenced Selena in many ways on why Selena loved music so much. The reason that this was a bad thing is because her family was Mexican and wasn’t usually found to sing 80’s pop.
The sounds of the play work in a very similar fashion. Even before the play, there was a plethora of songs from the Simpsons being played while the audience waited for the production to begin. The play does have musical elements so there are many times that the dialogue calls for random spots of song. This important for the understanding the play as a whole. The songs set the mood for each scene.
Specifically, in Edward Scissorhands, the fighting scene where Edward and Jim were in Edward’s attic and in the background, the music was loud and fast to show that it was a fight scene and that someone was going to be hurt or killed. Music changes throughout a movie to capture the mood of a particular scene and to evoke emotion from the audience. In Edward Scissorhands, the suburb is associated with lighthearted music and dark gothic music is associated with Edwards home, the mansion. The lighthearted music gives the audience the illusion that the suburb is happy and safe and the dark and eerie music gives the mansion an illusion of creepiness. Music can also relate to sounds in a movie as sounds can be used to have the audience hear if it will lighten up the mood in a scene or make the scene seem scary and eerie.
The thrilling horror of a masterful social satire that is “Get Out” discuss’ about a ‘post-racial’ America. Young ``African American photographer Chris Washington (Daniel Kaluuya) who accompanies his white girlfriend, Rose Armitage (Allison Williams), down to the country to ‘meet the parents’. Have you ever wondered about the little black and white stickers on many CD covers that read “PARENTAL ADVISORY EXPLICIT CONTENT” or what about the annoying bleeps right in the middle of your favorite song that playing on the radio? Well, its called music censorship, and those little “innocent” stickers and bleeps have been a major debate in America for the past few decades. Censorship mainly started around the 1950’s when traditional and conservative values began to unravel (Weisel). The manufacturing and use of the parental advisory labels on album covers started in 1985. Censoring was and still is a huge issue because many people accuse indecent language and violence influence in music takes a huge part in tragedies all over the world (Inglis).
Use of music in his movies is another topic of discussion. Once in the interview, Tarantino mentioned that most of the times he listens to the music before even thinking about visuals of the film. Music serves as a source of inspiration to the rhythm of his visuals especially for his title sequence in the opening(Quentin Tarantino Interviews, 2013, University Press

The iPhone was invented over ten-years ago, and it was one of the greatest invention in the past few decades. And ever since the iPhone was invented newer and faster smart phones come out every single year, but when do we finally give up on the physical device such as the iPhone and actually make an Eye Phone. Imagine a little contact that you could just put in your eye that has all the controls of a smart phone plus more. This phone that is just as small as an eye contact would finally make the constant struggle of losing your phone disappear and it would also provide a video camera that would always be accessible to record anything. So, this phone wouldn’t just always be on you, it would also help with finding out other things in your life by always have recordings to look back on, and see where you might of missed placed something or miss seen.
When the inventor died in Edward Scissorhands there was music that projected a sad mood. This helps the audience connect with the movie more and intrigues the audience more. As Edward and Kim were talking there was angelic, happy music that becomes louder as Edward and Kim hug. In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, when Charlie finds the money on the ground, Burton uses happy music to project an exciting and magical feeling to the audience. In Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Edward Scissorhands Burton uses camera movements, camera angles, and non-diegetic music to set a certain mood that the audience should feel.
Some audience reckons film music as the theme song. However, film music refers to the orchestral music accompanying the film from the beginning to the end. Film music speaks much more of the character of a film than the audience think it does. Apart from being the source music of the film, Film music has quite a few functions. Composer Robin Holfmann listed a few functions of film music, including commenting, illustrating movement, creating plot relationships and atmosphere, portray emotions, alternating the perception of time and psychologically uniting the audience.
This is similar to the way theatre uses music as “a sense of ritual return” (Berger 475). In La La Land, the score weaves each scene together and accompanies me through every step of the story. Each song is either repeated or slightly altered and this reprise of the score constantly reminds me that I am still residing in the fantasies of La La Land. Additionally, the tendency of using xylophones as the main instrument accompanying the songs allows me to feel as if I am part of a dream. For example, during the scene when Mia is driving down the street after rehearsing for her play, the song City of Stars plays in the background with a slightly slower rhythm using xylophones.
The instrumental music reinforces the meaning of the song because in the beginning when she talks about the walls she built and how they were tumbling down the song was slow and serious. Then when she started singing about her halo being her “saving grace” the song became very upbeat and happy. The music does affect the overall tone of the song because her voice stays pretty monotone but as the music speeds up or slows down it helps me understand how she was feeling. The instrumental is very intense and makes it seem like Beyonce feels very strong about what she is singing. In the song instruments like the drums, piaono, amd kyboard are played.
