MusicThe movie “Selena” was a musical in which many upbeat songs were played and sang by Selena. I will be explaining all about the music and deciphering and breaking down each song choice that was played during this movie. Selena at a young age was quite interested in the popular 80’s singer Donna Summer. She influenced Selena in many ways on why Selena loved music so much. The reason that this was a bad thing is because her family was Mexican and wasn’t usually found to sing 80’s pop. They were supposed to sing, what many 80’s and 90’s adults called, Mexican music. This caused Selena to protest but later on accept her heritage and begin a career in Mexican dance genre. So as Selena’s life went on her fanbase was mostly centered around people of Mexican descent.Selena’s love of music was shared with her father who enjoyed her incredible singing voice, and even thought about starting a band,

Now, her mother on the other hand, did not like this idea as it was going to be a waste of money and make them have to sell their house, which they were already struggling to pay for before the band idea was brought up. The family in the end was able to come to an agreement and the family had started a band.Selena’s fans were at first extremely unimpressed as in her first concert when she was around 9 or 10 years of age she still wanted to sing Donna Summer. This caused hate and boredom to the Mexican race of people listening to her music as they wanted “Mexican music” not “American music.” This pressure did turn Selena over into a Mexican singer which did fix the fans interest levels... In Mexico. It was definitely difficult for Selena to be popular in both languages and genres of music
