One trait Selena Quintanilla had that transferred to her viewers, both through her music and the actions she took, was humility. From a very young age, Selena always put others before herself, whether for her family or strangers. As her family’s music group, Selena Y Los Dinos, got popular, Selena “opted to leave school permanently” to lessen the stress on her band (Miller, Corina; Vol. 8, Issue 7). Once Selena became the Tejano star we know now, she displayed acts of heroism through charity work and guest appearances at elementary schools. For years now, her death has left a mark on the Hispanic community because she was someone who was seen for her talent rather than her ethnicity. Growing up learning English and Spanish, Selena was always looking on the bright side of her situation, leading everyone with her ambition. From the very beginning of her career, Selena’s father knew she was gifted with a voice no other had. She worked at Selena Y Los Dinos from 1957 to 1971 before starting a name for herself. She was Tejano music’s “brightest hope for the future” as she had unlimited talent and very well could have been “the first international superstar to come out of the Tejano market” (Miller, Corina; Vol 8, Issue 7). But it doesn’t stop her music career. Selena went on to open 2 boutiques named “Selena Ect”. Boutique and Salon” in 1994. She opened her heart to more than just the music industry, inspiring many people to do the same.
