Most high school students take a Spanish class, but their vocabulary is only limited to simple words because they are not required to take it for a long enough time. In fact, students do not see a foreign language as an important skill to obtain, but communication is a key skill to help people understand each other more than just verbally. A language can show how a culture is structured. Learning a foreign language only connects the world more. Communication is an necessary capability to have, and being able to expand communication through various language is even more important. High school does require students to take a foreign language course during a student’s four year, however, the class are so rudimentary that students leave with little to no obtained knowledge. Schools should have foreign languages required for a longer time period throughout one’s high school career allowing them to understand the language better. Spanish and English both share similarities in how they address “us” different than “them”, however, Spanish also includes a formal “you” in their language which is a great indication on how they view the elders of the country. It is true that America does show respect to their elders as well, but Spanish speaking countries go the extra mile to not only show their elders respect but to also speak to them with respect, which is sometimes a forgotten idea amongst younger generations. In Spanish class the teachers make sure to emphasize not only the language of the country but they also emphasize the culture, so a person learns a different culture making them more knowledgeable about others and less
