My feelings regarding spankings are inappropriate because it models aggressive behavior in young children. 8. Spankings should be administered with care. 9. Corporal punishment is the use of physical force causing pain, but not wounds, as a means of discipline; such as spanking, shaking, slapping hands and etc.
I think that, in order to raise a well-disciplined child, I will have to use physical discipline. People who say spanking obviously don't know how to deal with children. I do not believe that to raise a well-discipline child you need to use physical discipline. I thing that one of the most basic ways we can raise your children is simply by being a good role model for them.
Instead of just spanking a child, parents should look at reasons that are more acceptable by society or giving positive rewards when the child does something
If families do not have some form of discipline inside of their household things would begin to get out of control and become chaotic. So some parents choose to use spankings as a form of discipline. I think that spanking is necessary in raising children. In my household spanking was enforced for my siblings and I when we were younger, it was to teach us what’s right from wrong. Spanking is a disciplinary action where children can learn from it.
Hope for Our Future Generations: Should Spanking Be Outlawed? Have you ever talked back to your parents? Hit one of your siblings? If you have, there’s is a 4/5 chance that you have been spanked at one point or another. Spanking is one of the many ways in which parents, all over the planet, discipline their children.
Imagine walking into any place, formal or not, and the first scene you take in is a misbehaving child, too many people the first reaction is to take that child to the restroom or anywhere private and spanking its bottom. Parents have always used spanking as a type of parenting so that a child will learn a lesson that was they are doing is improper. Spanking should be continued as a form of parenting so that children learn to respect and how to behave in public places, it teaches the child that what they are doing could potentially cause them harm, and parents have an authority role. Spanking should be continued as a form of parenting so that children learn to respect and how to behave in public places, so often, children think that they can just run any show with the perfect meltdown in front of just the right person. When a child does this, they should not be rewarded with whatever they want, they need to be popped on the bottom and reminded that doing that is in no way proper and the cuteness of will only get them so far in life before others get tired of it.
This topic is a little touchy because spanking has become more controversial lately. Some arguments that defend the use of occasional spanking of children in order to discourage negative behavior are that it teaches long-term discipline and that children should be spanked to learn discipline to function well in society. Some of the negative after-effects that have been linked to spanking children are that children who are spanked are more likely to be aggressive, withdrawn, or have behavioral problems when they go to school. Some of the more shocking effects from spanking that were in the accompanying media were that kids who have been spanked have a decreased verbal capacity by age 9 and that it may cause children to have mental health issues.
It becomes hard to raise a child who has no respect for you or any other adults. If you do not discipline early enough, they will not respond to it later. As long as you are doing it right, spanking can be a good way to teach your children. You just have to make sure to not cross over that line, and make it become abuse. When you spank your child you are making them respect you, they will not want to disobey you when they know the outcome will
Spanking can be effective when a child is not listening to a parent. If a child isn’t following proper rules and disregarding their parents’ statement, then a spanking can enforce a form of respect that the child has to follow (Jasmine, 2015). It can be an awakening to reality as the child could now think of how their actions are deviant. Parents that don’t resolve to spanking as the first and only method of discipline is essential for both the parents and the child. I believe a parent should always try to enforce rules by talking and showing examples of how deviant actions are frowned upon.
Of course, once the child is a little older they state that spanking should only be used if they are putting themselves or others in danger (206). Spanking should not be used to hurt your child, but only as a physical intervention (video). When you do spank your child, it is very important to explain to them why they are being punished (206). This is to ensure that the child knows why they are in trouble and, hopefully, keep them from doing it again. As stated earlier, most African Americans use spanking as punishment.
A parent should remain in control when spanking their child, and it should never be used as a way to vent out their anger towards a child. The
This study was conducted on April 25, 2016 by experts at The University of Texas at Austin and the University of Michigan. Elizabeth Gershoff and co-author Andrew Grogan-Kaylor. Their study focuses on what most Americans would see as spanking and not a potentially abusive behavior. During their study they found that spanking your children can cause them to defy their parents more frequently and can also cause a lifelong mental health issue. It showed as the frequency of spanking increases, the likelihood of anti-social behavior, mental health issues, and aggression also increases.
The results were clear that smacking your child is very negative. The American academy of pediatrics and other important health development companies take a stand against parental to child physical punishment, both at home and at school. A study showed that the more the parents spanked their children for not being social, the more antisocial behavior would increase in daily life. The more the children are hit, the more likely they are to hit other kids whether its outside of school or in, including family members and adults, and more likely they are to hit their wife when they grow up. Studies show that even a few times of being hit as a child are likely to have depressive symptoms later in their life.
Many people think that the reason for this is easily described as “if you hold the reins too tight, the horse will buck.” Over punishing a child can be a bad thing, it will make the child want to retaliate more so than if one were to cut a little slack. However, under punishing a child can be bad as well, not teaching a child right from wrong can majorly increase the odds of the child doing the wrong thing. Reasons that parents give for spanking their children are to make children listen better, and to encourage better behavior, especially to put a stop to children's aggressive behaviors. Research shows, however, that spanking, or indeed any form of physical punishment, tends to have the opposite effect.
I. Introduction A. P. J. O 'Rourke once said “Everybody knows how to raise children, except the people who have them” (O’Rourke, Pg.10). Parents always want their children to be better than what they used to be when they were at their age; that is why they care about every detail in their children’s life especially when it comes to behavior, obeying them and listening to their words. B. Background Information: i. People came to realize that physical punishment is a rough, atrocious, unacceptable mean of punishment that should be banned for its appalling, horrifying effects. ii.
