Rationale
My written task is based on the people of North Korea and the defectors i.e the people who manage to escape the country. I have written a speech from the point of view of Min-Jun ,a 27 year old lady who was born in North Korea and managed to escape the oppressive country to settle in South Korea. In the speech Min-Jun talks about how life in North Korea had been when she was there and how she felt when she escaped the country and started a new life in the free world.

The plight of the people of North Korea inspired me to write this speech. My written task is addressed to the people living in free countries who enjoy the rights that people in North Korea are being denied. Chinese and Korean missionaries helped us relocate to Mongolia, and South Korean diplomats facilitated our transition into Seoul. After this harrowing journey, which finally concluded in 1998, I settled in South Korea with my family permanently.

It was only when I got out of the boundaries of North Korea that I realized what the world actually looked like. It was only when I saw the outside world and people that I realized that I had been living in a prison where my mind was caged and my thoughts were controlled. The basic human rights, that I used to consider a luxury once, were now there with me. It was as if I were born again. As if my life had been a nightmare from which I had finally woken up.

My story has a happy ending. But not many others are as lucky as my parents and I have been. My aim of speaking here today is not to tell you people about how I escaped North Korea and started a new life but to highlight the plight of the people still living in the tormenting conditions of North
