If there is one specific genre I don't watch that much, it's the war genre. Normally, it's not my type of movie, but when it comes to one of the best, if not the best war film, it has to be Saving Private Ryan. This movie is about a group of soldiers, led by Captain John Miller on their mission to find and take Private James Ryan from the war after his three brothers are killed in battle. It very accurately shows the impact that war has on soldiers in many ways. This is my first time watching the movie and I am very impressed. It's not just your typical war film, it has a personal story that will keep you hooked from start to finish and I believe it is one of Spielberg's best films yet. This movie used some amazing camera angles all throughout the movie. In this movie there were some fantastic camera angles that really set the tone for the rest of the movie. One specific camera angle that really stuck out at me was in the beginning of the movie when the camera zooms in on the old guy's face and the camera cuts to the past of what seems like a flashback for this man where everyone is on boats going to Omaha beach. I thought this was a very important scene in this movie because it really gets the movie started. As I mentioned before this is in the beginning of the movie in its opening sequence, which shows the landing of the American troops on Omaha Beach, is to be one of the most realistic images of combat ever filmed. The scene is characterized by the chaos and confusion that characterized the actual invasion. With soldiers being mowed down by machine gun fire and explosions. This movie also accurately shows the equipment, uniforms, and weapons used by the soldiers during war. The weapons used in the film like the machine guns and the automatic rifles are very accurate to this period. Another way this movie is historically accurate is through the soldiers themselves. The characters in the film are based on real soldiers who fought in World War II. Their fears and struggles all reflect the experiences of the soldiers during war.
