Sports law consists of legal issues in the realm of both professional and amateur sports. Sports law covers a wide variety of aspects in the sports industry. One who practices sports law may be representing not only players, but also coaches, game officials, a variety of leagues, governing bodies of the sport industry, athletic administrators, educational institutions, and even owners. On an even broader scale sports law also covers sports equipment manufactures, sports broadcasters, sports medicine practices, it could even entail concessions serving food at a live sports event. “Whose common goal is understanding, advancement and ethical practice of sports law.” Their website is sportslaw.org they currently have over a 1,000 members which are made up practicing lawyers, law educators, law students, and other professionals with an interest in the field of professional and amateur sports. Their mission is to educate their members and provide vital data regarding specific areas of sports law. It also provides a forum that members can discuss a variety of topics in sports law which promotes discussion of different views and stances. Lastly the Sports Law Association makes rules of ethics for its members involved in sports law. Another key organization in our area is right here at the University of New Hampshire. UNH law Sports and Entertainment Law Institute at the Franklin Pierce Center for Intellectual Properties is top ranked. It provides students with hands on training and experiential opportunities in the sports area of law. One of its founders and now professor Micheal McCann is an expert on sports law being one of the nations best.
