Christianity is currently the largest religion in the world. But how did this belief become so popular? There are many answers to this, but the most important factors to incorporate is that Christianity offered equality to people with a low status, and an after-life. Although, diffusion played the biggest role in why the religion is so large because the information had to be passed on some way. The Christian religion believes that Jesus Christ was sent from God to die on the cross for our sins and he rose three days after being crucified. God tells Christians through the bible (their scared text) to praise him- their God, love others, and follow the commandments in the bible, along with many other things. Back then, life was very different and equality was rare. Equality was another big reason Christianity spread. People enjoyed the benefits Christianity offered such as having equal rights. Social statuses have changed in many ways since Christianity was developed. There were many social latters but one example would be during the dark ages in Europe. On the top was the king, their job was to protect their land and the people in it. Then the Nobles, Knights, Merchants, and at the bottom were the serfs. Serfs were slaves that provided the town with food, and very were extremely poor. Serfs were a large part of the Christian population because it gave them some power and equality between the ranks. They were also given help and support from the church. “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Jesus Christ”. Christianity offered an inviting community, with little disadvantages. Through the eyes of the church, even serfs were looked upon as the same social status the king. There were little problems with joining the church which made the religion spread fast.
