James VI had many notable moments throughout his 58 years as King of Scotland from 1567-1625 but a large-scale witch hunt that he played a major role in and the 1000-2000 people who were burnt, tortured and strangled will not only go down as one of his most memorable times as King but also in the history of Scotland. This paper will argue that James notion of witchcraft was massively conditioned by his ideas about kingship. It will discuss his belief in Divine right kingship and that he never denied he was the lords vassal and glorified in that fact. He believed in one Kingdom, of which god was the head, with the king as his vicegerent.

The purpose of this paper is to go through the Commentary of St. Thomas Aquinas about the Book of John. As part of my studies at Tokyo Christian University, I have come to appreciate the study of primary sources. The Commentary of St. Thomas about the Book of John is an important piece of literature. Aquinas, claims that one John is indeed a disciple of Jesus Christ. Further more Aquinas confirms that indeed a virgin predestined by God.
The Gospel of John positions love as the building block for what sets everything in motion. According to this gospel, love is resembled as the quintessence of God, and those who love Jesus will reap the benefits. Plans and agendas, don't work out well for those who do not love Jesus. God's most important gift to mankind is His love through Jesus Christ. This is a message that the world needs to hear and that witnesses must proclaim.
A dominant motif in British literature studies of the late 18th and early 19th century is that of the crisis of doubt, or faith, during the Victorian era. A sense of crisis permeated every facet of Victorian society as Charles Darwin’s text The Origin of Species, based on empirical study, called into question the Christian beliefs and values of the Victorian public. Much of Europe’s middle classes began to doubt the book of Genesis was a reliable source in accordance of how the universe was made, and struggled to reconcile past ideas and beliefs with progress and modernity, giving way to new intellectuals and free thinkers. The Victorian Era was known as an age of invention, prosperity and economic growth; branching to industrial expansion, invigorated reform in politics and social class status which all informed and influenced literature of the time.
Since then, it has been “considered to be the cup from which Christ drank during the Last Supper and the one used by Joseph of Arimathea to catch his blood as he hung on the cross”(Lupack). Additionally, the Holy Grail may have been a reflection of events that were taking place in the Middle Ages. It is apparent that both the Grail quest and the Crusade have the element of courageous knights going on a great quest to bring back a sacred object and both fail in the end. The Holy Grail might have been intended to serve as a moral reminder to the people of Britain. Besides Merlin and the Grail, Boron added the Sword in the Stone, and expanded on the Round Table.
Regarding England in the seventeenth century, some of the most known episodes are the Civil War, the establishment of the Commonwealth of England, or the Restoration period. However, the conditions of the first decades of the seventeenth century are crucial in order to understand the events that occurred later. In my paper, I aim to depict a picture of England concerning its social and cultural history during the reign of King James, from 1603 to 1625. When Elizabeth I of England died in 1603, James IV of Scotland inherited the crown of England and reigned until his death in 1625.
The University of Maryland Medical Center states that Herbal Therapy also called botanical medicine or phytomedicine, refers to using plant’s, seeds, berries, leaves, barks, or flowers for medicinal purposes. Herbalism has a long tradition of use outside conventional medicine. It is becoming more mainstream as improvements in analysis and quality control, along with advances in clinical research, show the value of herbal medicine in treating and preventing diseases. Herbal medicine is a natural, non-toxic way to treat many conditions of ill-health. It is holistic, meaning it treats the whole person, embracing all levels of an individual: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
The very nature of being has been on the minds of philosophers for thousands of years, from pre-Socratic times to Plato, Aristotle and on. It has been a question addressed by minds such as Boethius, Avicenna, and St. Thomas Aquinas during the middle ages. Thomas Aquinas was famously knowns as the ‘angelic doctor’ as he focused a great deal of his area of study on the existence of God and of Angels. This essay then will seek to examine Aquinas’s work De Ente et Essentia (On Being and Essence) and how Aquinas views the natural order of being and essence, as well as his focus on God and the spiritual.
