Four months into the school year and this portfolio project has brought me to a number of realizations. The choices I made in my Technical Theatre I classes worked well, I feel they lead to a deeper understanding of the elements of design and they made points I had a hard time making in the past. While in my advanced class, I struggled to get a majority of students engaged in the large “Macbeth” project. During this semester, I came to the conclusion I need to fight more for the right to “approve” students for my advanced class. I don’t want my classes to become a dumping ground for students not willing to work.
In Renton, Washington during 1986, Playtime Theaters purchased two movie theater locations in hopes of broadcasting movies of Adult films for public entertainment. The city of Renton placed a zoning ordinance in previous years prohibiting that adult films cannot be located within 1,000ft of a resident, church, park, or school. Playtime Theaters felt that the city of Renton location ordinance was a violation of the First and Fourteenth amendments of the United States Constitution. Playtime Theaters decided to file a suit in Federal District Court seeking an injunction and declaratory judgment claiming that their First and Fourteenth amendment were violated, because of the type of films that they were going to showcase.
While watching the movie Remember the Titans, one cannot help but notice many different leadership styles. There are examples of servant leadership and non-examples of servant leadership. Some of the different coach's techniques were effective, yet others were ineffective. This paper will take a close look at the assorted styles of leadership found throughout the film. It will also shed some light on what styles worked and which could have been more effective.
The federal theatre project started in 1935 after beginning of World War 1. This period experienced economic problems, which led to The Great Depression. This period is also known as the time in which media brought the world together. The Federal theatre was a branch of the “noncommercial America theater’’ led by Hallie Flanagan Davis. The Federal Theatre Project also established “The Living Newspaper”, trained people who took interest in writing, and collaborated news and drama.
Andrew Lloyd Webber has become a household name throughout the entire world. Not only do people flock to see his shows, but the pure fact that people outside of the theatre world know the composer of certain musicals is an accomplishment in itself. He has changed the musical theatre world. Some call him a “Broadway master” because his musical Phantom of the Opera surpassed his own record for the musical Cats to now hold the record for the longest running musical on Broadway as well as London’s West End ( Snelson 1).
Harpo Allen Middle School Scenario Reflection 1. Describe some approaches that could be used to establish a culture of high expectations for students and staff performances at Harpo Allen Middle School. • First, as a new principal, you will need to acquire an understanding of and appreciation for the culture of the school, then, use your leadership style (such as being a team leader) in order to gain the trust and respect of the staff and students. • Conduct a school climate survey of faculty, parents, and students to gauge how much of the learning process I taking place and what measures need to be incorporated insure that high quality teaching/learning is taking place for the entire school. • Create PLCs to promote high expectations among
Usually behind every great team there is a great leader leading the way. Rather it be the president of a country, or the manager of a convenient store, leaders pave the way to make sure everyone is successful. A great example of a leader is Odysseus. Odysseus was faced to save his men from the Lotus Eaters, he had to reap the repercussions of the men opening the air bags, and he was forced to take the fall for his men eating Hilo’s cattle. In my opinion, not only do they pave the way to ensure everyone’s success, but they also take on the responsibility of the actions of the people they supervise, and here’s how.
In the book, Everyday Use, the narrator, Mama, is a kind, soft spoken, and laid back woman. Growing up, Mama went through the Great Depression. During this time period, Mama learned how to make the best of everything she had, and how to put things to everyday use. Mama raised Dee and Maggie by herself, and she took on the manly work a father would normally do. Mama would do the hardy labor on the farm such as, butchering hogs and milking the cows.
Tg beneath the surface” (Weakland). Jerome Robbins fully integrated all of the elements of musical theater including music, lyrics, book, and dance to produce something entirely unique. Jerome Robbins was changing the face of musical theater entirely. West Side Story also broke the rules in a thematic way. West Side Story was the first show to portray that musicals could be based on painful stories.
A good leader needs to know how to handle certain situations and if they don’t then they need to know how to use the tools and people around them to get the task done efficiently and effectively. When serving you need to know how to handle any situation thrown at you while also being able to listen to those put in charge of
That was something I wanted to change because in order to look at the bigger picture, the smaller pieces must also be recognized. It was my first time as a leader as well as being in charge of 130 members. I tried to work with and gave my attention to each individual because they do matter, which helped the group progressed so much. The responsibilities continue to increase as the pressures of being a perfect leader begin to evolve. I was worried that people were criticizing me or blaming me for any small mistakes that I might make, but I realized that I was still a member of the band who was given a leadership position to inspire people with encouragements and positivity.
Throughout history, theatre has changed and developed in various ways. There are cases of ancient, medieval, and Renaissance theatres. The Renaissance brought one of the most famous theatres, The Globe Theatre, and one of the biggest contributors to theatre, William Shakespeare. The performing art started out as celebrations and developed into everyday entertainment, resulting to theatr today. Theatre has been happening in the early stages of human life.
A leader has the expertise to make people aware of the advantages of doing a certain thing, thereby creating a desire in people to follow him/her”. From Colonial Williamsburg Theatre to Broadway, theatre is ever-changing. The differences in each era of theatre are vast; the costumes, staging, acting techniques, and audiences all vary drastically from each other. The major eras and genres of American theatre include the colonial era, the Post-Revolution era, the Civil War era, Broadway, and Post-Modern—all with unique and varying aspects to them. Although the first permanent English settlement occurred at Jamestown, Virginia in 1607, according to Richard Hornby’s article The Crisis in the American History, the entire 17th century passed with no mention of theatrical productions or performances in the Colonies (Hornby).
In some situations, he must seek the approval of Steve before making any decision. While I was observing John, he possessed a variety of behaviors. Even though he is the general manager, he still had a lighthearted and friendly relationship with the employees. Instead of getting angry when they made mistakes he took it as a time to teach them what they should have done in that situation and how to correct it. In the article, it defines leadership as the “ability to persuade others to seek defined objectives enthusiastically” (Plachy, 1981, p. 59).
