Welcome to the 63rd Annual Indiana State Convention. What you are about to experience is something that you have never done before. These next two days will zip right past you unless you grab on and hang on for dear life. It isn’t like we are in Kansas anymore. Within the IJCL, we have so many different groups. We have the certamen players, we have the drama kids, we have the Ludi athletes, and we have the academic nerds. However, the one thing that separates us from a normal organization is that we are all united. State convention is a time for all of us to join hands and celebrate one thing, our love of the classics.

Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get so I suggest you follow one rule this weekend. That rule being enjoy the little things. Don’t hold back and sit on the sidelines. Go up to that one cute kid from the other side of the state and introduce yourself. Go ask some random kid if they want to play a game during JCL cards or where their supersuit is. Go say hello to someone because you never know if you just met your best friend. It has taken months to prepare. However, I can say that this has been one of the best years of my life. We debated about everything but what came out of those debates is a program that is designed with you in mind. It gives you time to be you. It gives you time to enjoy the little things and make those friends.

So enjoy the convention. If you see someone who needs help, be that gracious hand. We are here together because we all have a deep love for the classics and in that we are united and like a roman proverb says, where there is unity, there is victory.
