Re: Letter of Recommendation for Joshua Whiting To The RA Selection Committee: I write on behalf of Joshua Whiting’s application for a Resident Assistant position. I believe Josh to be an exemplary student-scholar as well as a person of tremendous character with significant leadership skills. I met Josh in my first semester of college in our biology class. We were both Biochemistry majors so we got to skip Biology 1 and therefore were both new to this new world of college but already in a group full of sophomores and students who had been in college for multiple semesters. Naturally we gravitated to each other due to this aspect we had in common.
My professional experience and educational background, make me an excellent candidate for the position of Administrative Assistant for the SPS Foundation. I currently work with Saskatoon Public Schools as Secretary I for Facilities. For the past nine months I have worked with the SPS Foundation as the Executive Assistant (EA) to the Director. Working with the Foundation has been rewarding both personally and professionally, as this is an opportunity to give back to SPS, the little learners, and to our community. I have over three years of directly relatable professional experience as an administrator and am well-versed in delivering outstanding customer service, document control, scheduling and coordinating appointments, and special events.

The University of Arkansas has a thriving student population that combines countless cultural backgrounds. By living on campus, I’ve been able to learn about and appreciate various cultures and their practices, permitting new relationships to grow and prosper. Because of this, I want to be the one who facilitates healthy relationships among residents. Through these relationships, a positive and comfortable atmosphere would be created. I believe that personal and academic success is directly related to a good home-base, so I want to be able to create such a place for residents.
Resident Assistants serve many purposes and play many roles in the community. They help to build and promote a supportive and active community within their residence hall and across the campus, and offer support and guidance to their residents. This aids in making Geneseo feel more like home and a community rather than simply a school. RAs enforce Geneseo and Department of Student Life rules, while also being a more easily accessible and less intimidating resource to other students in need of help. I want to be an RA so that I can become more involved in the Geneseo community in a positive way, by helping and representing other students.
I am interested in your New Graduate Nurse Residency Program. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts Boston and recently obtained my MA RN license in August 2015. I choose to be an RN because I love learning about the anatomy and physiology of the human body and working with people. When I was a little girl, I would watch the Discovery Health channel instead of watching cartoons. In high school, I became interested in social justice work when I did a month long volunteer service trip to India.
A career as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is a natural extension of my personal, educational, and research experiences. Although my path to nursing has not been a straight line, every experience that put me on this path has shaped my passion and dedication to psychiatric nursing. After losing loved ones to suicide at a young age, I made a promise to myself and to them that I would dedicate my life to helping individuals struggling with mental illness. This promise led me to study Psychology at UC Berkeley, where I fell in love with clinical research investigating the efficacy of treatments for mental illness.
What is a Physician Assistant? As a relatively new field of practice, this answer is often asked. Physician Assistants are also known as PAs. They practice medicine on a team all under the supervision of a doctor. The name is largely a misnomer as physician assistants are much more than mere “assistants”.
I want to be a physician because I want people to grow old. At the age of 6, one of my closest friends was diagnosed with leukemia. By age 8, the disease claimed his life, robbing him of the opportunity to experience the privilege of growing old. Unfortunately, we live in a society of vanity. We see the process of aging and choose not to embrace it.
I believe that I will be a great educator as a staff member. Since I have gone through many of the same experiences that many of the students will go through, I will be able to relate to them on a personal level. Furthermore, I am a very patient and understanding person, which I believe will further add to my ability to connect with the students. I believe that I will be able to assist the students in many areas that are, in my opinion, essential to living and thriving at the University of Missouri. Among these areas are stress management, finding organizations around campus that are of interest to the student, and other seemingly trivial things such as how to get in touch with instructors.
Working in different settings and meeting new people that need to be taken care of has always interested me. The job I want to have while I go to college is the very challenging role of a Medical Assistant. Due to the experiences that have happened in my life, I believe that becoming a medical assistant is the best career choice for me. There are many duties and responsibilities I will have as a medical assistant.
In some ways, I have been preparing my whole life to be a social worker. Since I was twelve, all I have wanted to do was help kids and families in need. Having a role model who worked in education, I decided that teaching would be the way to do this and committed my adolescence and early career to making this happen. I have spent most of the last twenty years in education related roles and working with kids in need. It was a passion for a long time.
My passion for helping and supporting those whose economic and financial standings have hindered their growth in our society, has driven me towards social work. I feel I have exhausted every possible avenue in my current degree field. Pursuing a master’s in Social Work, will give me the diversity that I need, while aiding me in bringing my dreams of working more in depth with clients, by helping assist them with their individual needs and issues to reality.
