Nursing is a unique profession in that it combines the art of caring with the science of medicine. Nurses are responsible for not only providing direct patient care, but also for advocating for their patients and promoting their overall health and well-being. This requires a combination of clinical knowledge and skills, as well as empathy and compassion.

As a former Vanderbilt PMHNP fellow in community health, I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of patient populations, including those in rural underserved communities. One of my personal experiences that has had a significant impact on my career goals was working with the LGBTQ+ community in a rural setting. I carefully considered both the FNP and AGNP programs and ultimately chose the AGNP program because of my passion for working with older adults and my desire to specialize in this area of healthcare. I believe that the AGNP program will provide me with the knowledge and skills necessary to become a competent and compassionate provider for this population.

As an AGNP, I understand that my roles and responsibilities will include providing primary care to adults and geriatric patients, managing acute and chronic illnesses, and collaborating with other healthcare providers to ensure that my patients receive the best possible care.
