In 1974, former President Nixon resigned from office and Gerald Ford became the temporary president. One of the first executive orders that Ford did was pardon Nixon for his crimes against the United States. The entire scandal had, “driven a stake into the heart of traditional national politics.” (Farber, 27) This controversy was not only publicized nationally, but severely damaged the American people’s already withering relationship with their government.

United States v. Nixon and Clinton v. Jones should have had the same outcome from the Supreme Court. Both, former President 's violated the law and wanted to use presidential privileges to dismiss their cases. In the United States v. Nixon, the Court had the right to order the President to relinquish the tapes to Congress to use as evidence for the trial against the seven members held accountable. Those accused were owed a duty by the Court to be given a fair and speedy trial. In the Clinton v. Jones case, the Court should have not granted the former President Clinton immunity because the general public needs to realize that not even the President can violate the law and get away with it.

He knows that Bob still holds a grudge against humiliating the Ewell name in court, and this is how he expresses it. Atticus also does not react because he knows that this may save Mayella from another beating, which he will happily try and stop from occurring.
As we celebrate Black American History month this is a time to reflect on contributions made by many African Americans. One person that comes to mind is Barbara Jordan. Barbara Jordan was important because she had an impact on the African American community by being the first African American in the Texas Senate, a Civil Rights leader, a speaker for the Democratic National Convention, and she will always be remembered for her role in the Nixon impeachment. Jordan had many other accomplishments and she worked for the good of others until her death at the young age of 59. “Barbara Jordan was born in Houston, TX on February 21, 1936, and she was one of three daughters of Benjamin Jordan and Arlyne Jordan.”
Sonia Sotomayor, a supreme court nominee, in her speech to the Senate Judiciary Committee speaks about the struggles of her childhood and how she has gotten to this point in her career. She explains her previous jobs such as being a trial judge for several years, and how that has improved her ability to implement the law. The purpose of Sotomayor’s speech is to persuade the Senate Judiciary Committee as well as the people of the United States to support her in becoming the next Supreme Court Justice. Sotomayor utilizes ethos, pathos, as well as an optimistic tone in order to convince the audience that she is the best candidate for the next supreme court justice.
Clinton's statement sounds pleasant and positive, but it can be difficult to determine exactly what Clinton's intent is. The statement by William J. Andrew Johnson could be described as a book. From the outer cover, the public sees Johnson as an accidental president who has made several mistakes. Concluding him as one of the worst Presidents in known history, but when you finally turn back the cover, his pages are not as black and white as what you would expect. There are many ways people perceived Andrew Johnson; some have positive views giving him the credit that he was very intelligent. He was also a skilled public speaker, had an honest leadership reputation, and a known quality of “getting under peoples skin”.
Ever since President Andrew Johnson’s impeachment trial there has been controversy concerning the final vote that sealed the decision. Johnson had taken the office as president after Abraham Lincoln’s assassination in 1865. However Johnson, who was a Democrat, immediately clashed with the Grand Old Party because it had been dominated by Radical Republicans, specifically Thaddeus Stevens and Charles Sumner. Many bills were passed by the Republican Congress, but Johnson would veto them.
In the eyes of Martin Luther King Jr., Justice within a society is achieved through the implementation of just laws. Furthermore, “just laws are regulations that have been created by man that follow the laws of God for man” (“Clergymen’s Letter”). Any law that does not correspond with the ideals of God and morality are considered to be unjust or a form of injustice. King identifies that injustice is clearly evident within the justice system. This injustice can truly be seen through the misconduct imposed toward the African American community.
