“Critical Analysis Outline of Staying Fat for Sarah Brynes”

We all have personal traits, but some affect people differently. Each person plays apart in the book Staying Fat for Sarah Brynes, but the three characters I chose stand out to me. They all have different personal traits that affect the story. Sarah Brynes is extremely courageous, Mr. Byrnes is psychotic, Eric is very caring.
Sarah Byrnes is extremely brave. She goes through her whole life lying about what really happened to her. She lives with someone who physically and emotionally abuses her. “Sarah Brynes starts to protest” (Crutcher 279). The text shows Sarah Brynes started to protest and stand up for herself. If no one believes her she wants to stand up for what really happened. She was strong enough to tell Eric she couldn’t stand going back to live with her dad instead of the hospital. Communicating what you really feel is a very brave thing to do. Sarah Brynes is extremely brave. She told the truth about what really happened to her. …show more content…

Byrnes is a psychotic character. He not only burned Sarah Brynes but also emotionally and physically abused her. Putting your child in extreme pain is one of the most psychotic things to do. “He used to tie me up. He wouldn’t let me eat. He locked me up sometimes” (Crutcher 278). The text shows what terrible things Mr. Byrnes would do to Sarah Brynes. He is a terrible person, hurting your own daughter, tying her up, and not letting her eat are all extremely disturbing. He deserves to stay in jail for the rest of his life because what he has done to Sarah Brynes is unforgivable. Mr. Byrnes is an extremely psychotic person. He hurt Sarah Brynes in disturbing ways no one should be hurt
