Scientists continue to hope that one day stem cells will be used as a treatment that will cure almost every disease. Even though this may sound like a great idea it has turn into a controversial topic due to their research approach. Stem cells are universal cells that have the ability to develop into specialized tissues that can be used throughout the body to treat diseases or injuries. There are two different types of stem cells embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells. Embryonic stem cells possess the capacity to divide for long periods and retain their ability to make all cell types within the organism. While adult stem cells are undifferentiated cells, found throughout the body after development they multiply by cell division to replenish dying cells and regenerate damaged tissues. Stem cell research can open new doors for doctors and their patients. This research will give opportunities to those who weren’t able to live a normal life. Many are against Stem cell research because in order to conduct this research they take embryos, which are developing human lives and destroyed them in the name of science. This research should continue but embryonic research should not but we should put our focus on adult stem …show more content…
The New York Time states ‘‘the destruction of a human embryo is morally wrong… A human life begins at the moment when egg and sperm are united.’’ In the other words, the embryo is a human life and as wrong as would be to kill a human being it is the same thing when it comes to the embryo. A New York Time article has two sides when it comes to this argument, a proponent states the following “Human embryos should be treated with respect …” What's so respectful about scientist destroying a developing human life.As you can see, scientist really don’t have the public in mind when it comes to embryonic
