My chosen case for this essay is Stephen Lawrence s case as it is a very famous one in relationship with Forensics developments. Stephen Lawrence was an 18 years old black male murdered in a bus station in London in 1993. At that time Police failed to find evidence however after a while a spot of blood was found on one jacket which belonged to the main suspect of crime. Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid sample was discovered later after 2 investigations in 1993 and 1995 (Mark Hughes, 2014, 1a). Stephen Lawrence was murdered on 22 April 1993 in a bus station on Dickson Road, Eltham, London. He was together with his friend Duwayne Brooks heading home at 22:30. They stopped in the bus station to wait for a bus to get them home. Stephen went to the middle …show more content…

They came straight to him and stubbed him. The attack took about 15-20 seconds after which they disappeared from the scene. Stephen was stubbed twice which damaged various arteries therefore he was losing blood severely however he was able to stand up and walk for 130 yards where he collapsed (The Stephen Lawrence Inquiry, Tom Cook, 1999,1a). In 1996 three suspects were arrested and prosecuted but they were released because of the absence of evidence. Also another two were discharged in 1995 for the same reason therefore the main issue of this case was the missing evidence. After further investigations they realised Metropolitan police failed because they were racist and incompetent to solve the case. There was not enough evidence to put suspects on jail. All they had were 3 eye witnesses which did not helped much. The only witness who would have been able to identify the suspects was his friend Duwayne Brooks (The Stephen Lawrence Inquiry, Tom Cook, 1999, 1b).In 2006 two men murdered a 10 years school boy. Metropolitan Police successfully found the murderers as they collected a really small sample of blood which was enough because of the DNA …show more content…

They apply different temperatures which results in melting of the DNA. After this process the double helix will separate and enzymatic replication will occur. Complementary primers are added resulting in multiplying of the sample. Therefore this is how Forensics investigators successfully tested the blood stain on the suspect jacket and they were able to say if Dobson was guilty for Stephen Lawrence death. DNA was first used in UK for an emigration case. A family from Ghana came to UK and became citizens. One of the sons went back to Ghana and when he wanted to come back to UK he was stopped. The emigration officers asked Professor Jeffrey which discovered DNA if he can prove that the boy is in fact the mother’s son or her nephew. The professor proved he is her son and this is how DNA started to be used (Rana Saad, 2004, 1b).In the following years DNA became more popular and used more often however it did not helped all the time because it was required a big amount of evidence to be tested. The data base was invented in 1994 in America and it was used by police to compare evidence collected from suspects and also everything was introduced in computers. Because the data base was created
