On the 2003 article it states that a woman robbed from her pursed when she had called to her house to borrow money. Another example would be that after she had broken up with her boyfriend he demanded 20,000 euros for the two years that Callie supposedly had promised him after he quit his job. She was also accused of trying to steal a girl’s boyfriend by the newspapers and tabloids. In comparison to what happened to Kino in the novel is that once he found the pearl he had become the enemy of everyone. For example like the doctor at first he didn’t want to attend Kino because they were poor and had nothing to offer. But once the news got out that he had the pearl of the world he became interested. On example that would prove this statement would be that at the beginning of the 2003 article Callie said that her wealth would not change who she was. She had all the intentions of still having a normal life and not become someone different. But the need of the other people have changed who she was. If she hadn’t won the lottery in the first place none of the things that happened to her would have happened to her. I believe that the people’s greed are to blame for the misfortunes in the novel. An example would be that when the doctor found out about the pearl he imagine himself back in Paris leaving the life he deserved of comfort and luxury. Another example would be that the priest also saw in the pearl things that he can add to the church and the needs all the people needed. This shows that the people made the pearl seem like a bad thing and they have poised it with their greed. The pearl is supposed to be a beautiful thing but it’s like a mirror for what someone
